  About Carrera Eyewear

Founded by Wilhelm Anger in 1956 in Austria, the Carrera eyewear brand took off almost immediately thanks to its high-quality products and unbeatable sporty styles. For over 60 years now, the brand has stood for elegant design and innovation, and it is hard to imagine the top sports goods manufacturers without it. Starting with sports and ski goggles, the company expanded its portfolio to include not only sports glasses, but also Carrera sunglasses and prescription glasses, which are also entirely sporty. The name of the brand originally comes from Spanish, where Carrera means "race". Anger was inspired by what was probably the most dangerous race in the world at the time - the Carrera Panamericana.

A milestone for the eyewear manufacturer was the patenting of Optyl in 1964, a lightweight plastic that minimises the weight of the glasses. Optyl achieves a weight reduction of 20% compared to acetates and other thermoplastic materials and can adapt to the wearer's face. In the 1970s, the company expanded by starting to produce ski helmets and visors. Incorporating the latest technology, the focus was above all on maximum safety. The breakthrough came in 1974 when Carrera turned the world of winter sports upside down with the introduction of interchangeable lenses for ski goggles.

But the eyewear producer never rested on its laurels, always fighting to reach the highest peak. By 1981, the company's own distribution network stretched across 16 countries, while Carrera eyewear was already on display in shop windows in 80 countries. The year 1987 opened a new chapter in which the company became even more actively involved in the world of sport. The America's Cup, the oldest and most famous sailing regatta, was only the beginning of the sponsoring strategy. In the years that followed, worldwide cooperation followed at the Olympic Games, in Formula 1, motorbike racing and the major cycling races, as well as on the ski slopes and airfields. Carrera Eyewear wanted to be perceived as a sporting brand at all costs.

In the meantime, the company structure changed because the Safilo Group, one of the market leaders in the field of luxury optical products, bought into the previously independent company and moved its headquarters from Austria to Padua in Italy. To gain an even better foothold in the fashion industry, the company entered into useful collaborations. Among them was the partnership with Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, whose joint baby was the revolutionary 1979 Carrera Porsche Design collection with foldable frames and interchangeable lenses. Another fruitful collaboration was with designer Jimmy Choo. The result was a successful women's line, followed a year later by an exclusive capsule collection for men.

  Who wears Carrera eyeglasses?

While the European market was covered slowly but surely over decades, Carrera only spread to the USA in 2010, but this did not stop the brand from landing the most famous stars from film, television and music within a very short time. In addition to actors Jared Leto and Bradley Cooper, their colleague Chloe Grace Moretz and former child star Ashley Tisdale, musicians such as Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Alicia Keys and Christina Aguilera call some of the elegant glasses their own. Carrera glasses also played a prominent role at the film premiere of the Hollywood blockbuster Suicide Squad and in Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" video from the album "The Fame Monster."

  Carrera Glasses Frames

Carrera frames for women and men include special features such as elasticity, flexibility and shape retention. For those who want a seamless look and as lightweight a frame as possible, rimless or semi-rimless frames are perfect. As well as sporty models, there are also more fashion-oriented frames, such as the Carrera aviator glasses in vintage style. They are available in the frame colour ruthenium, which is somewhere between grey and silver. If you prefer aviator glasses in classic black, you should definitely take a look at black Carrera Aviators. For all those who want to add a touch of vintage elegance to their outfits, the gold rim frames are perfect.
