Hugo Prescription Glasses

Modern Eyewear from Boss

"Stay true to yourself and success will come naturally." (Hugo Boss)

Hugo Ferdinand Boss seems to have been a principled man. On the one hand, the clothing manufacturer from Swabian Metzingen was determined to keep his factory alive even in difficult times, on the other hand, high-quality suits were the ultimate in good taste for him. This attitude of the founder is a key part of the brand image: To this day, Hugo Boss represents uncompromising design and highest quality standards - no longer just when it comes to suits. The label's glasses and sunglasses also impress with their accuracy and high design standards.

The Hugo Boss Story

Hugo Boss was born the youngest of five children, but later took over his parent's bedding and linen business in Metzingen as he was the only surviving male descendant. After the First World War, at the age of almost 40, he ventured a new start and founded his own clothing factory with two partners, in which shirts, jackets and underwear were manufactured. During the Third Reich Hugo Ferdinand Boss pragmatically kept his head above water: his clothing factory now produced uniforms – for railway and postal officials, but also for Nazi organizations such as the SA, SS, HJ and the Wehrmacht. In this way, Boss ensured the survival of the factory and laid the foundation for its later success. However: the forced laborers employed in the factory were not compensated for their precarious working conditions during this time until the year 2000.

From Manufactory to Major Corporation

In 1948, Hugo Ferdinand Boss died and his son-in-law Eugen Holy took over the management of the company. From then on, the company in the Swabian Jura primarily produced suits and coats for men. Finally, in 1970, the Boss brand was introduced - the rise to a globally oriented fashion group began. The Boss grandsons Uwe and Jochen Holy continued to drive this development from 1976 onwards, adding cosmetics as well as eyewear and sunglasses to the fashion portfolio.

The Hype Around Hugo

In the shoulder-pad-crazy Eighties, the jacket and suit hype played into the Hugo Boss company's cards. The accurate tailoring and timeless elegance of the fashion from Metzingen became a must-have, and the fragrances also went through the roof, first and foremost the legendary perfume Boss Bottled. The stars as well as the fashionable luxury segment seemed within reach. In the nineties, this step towards luxury was to be completed, Hugo Boss was handed over to the Italian textile manufacturer Marzotto, and the new head designer Werner Baldessarini focused on high-end fashion for an affluent clientele. Numerous new lines were introduced, including Hugo Boss, which was intended to appeal to a younger, more modern target group, a golf line, the Boss Orange leisure line, and finally a women's collection in 1998. Jewellery, accessories, children's fashion and interior products followed. Today, the focus is entirely on the core brands Boss (high-quality and classic) and Hugo Boss (younger and more design-oriented), each with its own collection for men, women and children.

Celebrity Brand Faces

The list of Hugo Boss testimonials is truly impressive: Sienna Miller, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jared Leto, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Gerard Butler, Matthias Schweighöfer, Lewis Hamilton, Mats Hummels and many more have already advertised for the brand, currently Hollywood hottie and "Thor" actor Chris Hemsworth is at the forefront, as well as "Pirates of the Caribbean" star Orlando Bloom, who is enhancing his already handsome face with the Eyewear.

Eyeglasses from Hugo Boss

Hugo Glasses are characterized - just like the Hugo sunglasses, of course - by a fashion-forward and minimalist look, good wearing properties and affordable prices. In terms of selection, quality, eyeglass shape, material and style, the Hugo brand now really leaves nothing to be desired.

Many of Hugo's eyeglass frames fall into the unisex category, but there are of course favourite pieces according to gender. Ladies prefer to go for round frames in berry tones or dark, earthy colours like brown or Havana, for example the HG 1041. Two-tone frames with a cat-eye look, such as the HG 1109, also regularly rank high on our sales list.

Men prefer more masculine, dark models, preferably in black or blue. The HG 1017 with its round plastic frame in iridescent denim blue gives its wearer the perfect mix of retro feeling and current rock appeal. Less dominant but no less modern are filigree metal frames like the HG 1035, which scores with matte black and red-accented temples.
